We’re now keeping the cottages open all year round and need very little notice for you to book a winter break although we are fully booked for New Year (but not Christmas). We are delighted to offer short breaks of 3 days outside the main holiday seasons.
We had a fabulous April and May weather-wise this year with the rest of the summer months not too bad at all; especially considering our ‘southern neighbours’ summer weather. Our up to date average rainfall report is at this link.
We have improved our offer for The South Wing in 2009 by including the provision of bed linen, towels and a mid week housekeeping visit. We feel that this is more in keeping with the grandeur of this wonderful apartment. We have held the price at its 2008 level and so for a party of two families holidaying together The South Wing is excellent value for money.
Improvements for 2009 to all of our holiday properties will include the installation of washing machine/dryers, DVD TV’s with ‘FreeSat’ and CD players (all of which which we can remove before your arrival if you would rather be TV free)! The bathrooms in the Craigendarrochs and Rose Cottage will be greatly improved and a fair amount of paint will be applied around the place. The little niggles that have been pointed out to us by this year’s visitors will all be put right for the start of the 2009 season.
We have a wonderful Ardtornish 2009 Charity Calendar which has been put together by our Factor, Angus Robertson in aid of a vocational training centre in Tanzania. If you would like to see this place that we know and love every day of the year and help some wonderful people at the same time just click the link to order a copy (or two)!.
We have just ordered new Guest Information Folders for the properties and these will be in place for 2009 with up to date information about your holiday accommodation, Morvern and Mull Attractions, local food and drink and other good things.
The new computerised booking system which has been running alongside our old paper system will be fully operational for 2009; with apologies to those few visitors who experienced difficulties during the changeover. This will mean that we can offer you a much more efficient service in handling your holiday bookings.
Fishing, Stalking & Shooting
We are in the third year of our salmon stocking programme which is due to run until at least 2011 with the aim of returning The Aline to its former glory (120 salmon in 1992) The five year averages for salmon and sea trout up to and including 2008 are 25 and 47 respectively.
Our 2009 Stalking Season will see the re-introduction of pony stalking and will run from 1 September to 20 October for stags; prices (ex VAT) for 2009 are £350 per stag, including a trophy preparation fee.
We have put together two challenging and Exciting Shooting Experiences for 2009. We are offering three separate weeks woodcock shooting over pointers between the end of November and the end of January. In addition we have wildfowling on several ponds on the Estate which are fed from the beginning of August.
Functions
We are honoured to have hosted four weddings this year. Ardtornish House accommodates 40 people and if you include our cottages we can accommodate 90. We are very flexible in What our Functions have to Offer – you tell us what you would like and we will do our utmost to make it happen. We can also offer smaller functions using only The South Wing, sleeping 12 or combined with The Billiard Room Flat to sleep 20.
The Garden
The garden at Ardtornish takes on brilliant colours in the autumn. Faith Raven’s update on The Garden is at this link.
Hydro Schemes
Ardtornish has recently submitted planning applications for two new hydro schemes on the estate which will concentrate all of our renewable energy activities in one general area. There is More Information about the Hydro at this link.
A big thank you to everyone who has visited us in 2008. We all at Ardtornish look forward to meeting you again in 2009 and if not then, at some time in the not too distant future.
Here’s tae us and wha’s like us…
