Mountain Bothy on Scotland’s West Coast
Managed by the MBA (Mountain Bothy Association), Leacraithnaich is a remote Highland Bothy, sitting on the hillside above Loch Tearnait. It serves as a refuge for hill walkers and as a rustic, authentic stopover for adventerous campers.
The Mountain Bothy is remotely located in the wilds of Ardtornish. Wood burning stoves, sleeping platforms and a view out over the remote landscape are what makes for a stay to remember in our special Bothy. Like most Highland bothies, there is no electricity or running water at Leacraithnaich and no toilet – so be sure to bring a shovel!
Whether its a quick pit-stop to enjoy a hot drink out of the rain or the desire to relax into a few solitary summer days, many visitors to enjoy this rustic shelter as part of their Ardtornish experience.
Who looks after Scotlands remote Highland Bothies?
Leacraithnaich has been carefully maintained for years by one of Scotland’s great rural institutions, the MBA. The organisations volunteers’ maintain a network of bothies throughout Scotland, all of which are open to walkers. In return, users are expected to observe some basic housekeeping rules. Whilst there is no charge for staying in our Bothy, we would suggest a donation is made for the upkeep of the building.
An overnight stay in an MBA Bothy is an unusual and diverse choice of holiday accommodation and perfect for those with a sense of adventure. You’ll be totally alone with exception of your wildlife neighbours – red deer, stags and Golden Eagles are all fairly regular visitors. Just be sure to observe the bothy code and make sure you leave it in a more homely state than than you found it for the next happy campers!
