“Delicious Food with Minimal Food Miles”
A dog-friendly café in Lochaline, celebrating estate-to-plate dining at Ardtornish.
The Coal Shed Café is a brand new, dog-friendly spot near Lochaline, set right in the heart of the Ardtornish Estate. We serve seasonal dishes. In fact, we source ingredients directly from the estate. Our menu celebrates Ardtornish’s best, including organic farmed meats and produce freshly picked from our Victorian Kitchen Garden. This food is local, sustainable, and full of flavour.
The café is open seven days a week until Friday, December 12th (reopening February 2026). We welcome estate guests, locals, and also visitors exploring the Morvern Peninsula. Stop by after a countryside walk or while travelling to or from the Isle of Mull ferry. Either way, our café offers a relaxed, welcoming space to rest, refuel, and enjoy a true taste of Ardtornish.
A Café Rooted in Place
The Coal Shed Café is ideally positioned for visitors arriving by boat or road. It’s located just three miles from Lochaline village and a two-mile walk from Lochaline Pontoons. Therefore, this spot brings the estate’s heritage, community, and landscape together. Guests enjoy hearty, honest food here. This food also supports local conservation and farming.
Our Sustainable Menu
Our menu changes with the seasons. Significantly, it showcases the estate’s commitment to sustainability. We prominently feature wild venison from our deer management programme. This reflects Ardtornish’s ongoing conservation efforts. Each dish tells the land’s story. From our juicy venison burgers to vibrant vegetarian and vegan plates, we craft every meal with care and minimal food miles.
Visit the Old Dairy Gift Shop
Next door to the café, you’ll find The Old Dairy Gift Shop. We stock it with a tempting range of Ardtornish Farm meats—beef, lamb, mutton, and venison—alongside our homemade ready meals. It’s the perfect place to pick up a taste of Ardtornish to take home.
