Day trips further afield

There are many wonderful things to see and do within an easy day trip from Ardtornish.  You can scale the heights of the UK’s tallest mountain – Ben Nevis – at Fort William, or take the cable car up from the Glen Nevis Range if you are looking to take in the views at leisure. You can visit the mainland’s most westerly point at Ardnamurchan Lighthouse stopping at the popular Ardnamurchan distillery on the way and take a walk on the pristine, white sands at Sanna Bay’. You can hop on a ferry over the sea to Skye from Mallaig or you can marvel at the majesty of the dramatic Glen Coe. Glenfinnan lies one and a half hour’s north of Ardtornish and is home to the Glenfinnan Bridge and the iconic Prince Charlie monument – a must for Harry Potter fans and history enthusiasts alike.

Oban is a great option – accessible via Mull or by road via Corran Ferry and around by Ballachulish.  The ferry is more direct but the road option is quicker, at around two hours from Ardtornish.  Oban is a bustling harbour town and provides great opportunities for shopping and stocking up on larder essentials.  We recommend taking a stroll along the harbour front and making a visit to the Oban Chocolate Company – their hand made chocolates are delicious and their cafe makes a delightful stopping point for coffee and cake. Slightly further on from Oban at Seil, you can take the famous “Bridge over the Atlantic” en-route to the pretty village of Easdale.

During the summer months, day trips to the spectacular Small Isles of Eigg, Rum and Muck are also accessible from the marina at Arisaig, 1 hour and 45 minutes drive from Ardtornish. Whales and dolphins are often sighted from the MV Sheerwater making the excursions an extremely popular choice for wildlife watchers! Eigg now boasts its own brewery selling delicious craft aes; or perhaps you’d rather tackle the Cuillins of Rhum which have been described as the Skye Cuillin’s in miniature.

The opportunities for a memorable day out from Ardtornish are endless and you will definitely not be short of choice!
